Service-related injuries are no longer restrictions but instead serve as gateways to each warrior’s new mission in life. BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Service-related injuries are no longer restrictions but instead serve as gateways to each warrior’s new mission in life.

Warriors from across Florida will start that mission when they join Wounded Warrior Project and the Space Coast Sled Hockey team for adaptive sled hockey at the Space Coast Iceplex on Saturday, March 16, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Space Coast Iceplex is located at 720 Roy Wall Boulevard in Rockledge.

The clinic will introduce warriors to modified equipment and rules of sport required for play.

With an empowered mindset, warriors are increasingly enjoying adaptive sports as they rediscover freedom in competitive and recreational sports.

Physical and mental wellness play important roles in a warrior’s recovery process.

These types of clinics are part of the WWP Adaptive Program, designed to connect some of the most seriously wounded veterans with adaptive equipment, sports, and exercise routines that are specialized for each warrior’s unique injury.

After each clinic, warriors receive tools and assistance to continue improving their new skills at home in their communities, where they can take part in competitions or join adaptive sports teams.

More and more, warriors are using physical activity to improve their mental well-being.

In fact, according to a Wounded Warrior Project survey of the injured warriors it serves, 30.3 percent of survey respondents expressed physical activity helps them cope with stress and emotional concerns.

WWP Adaptive Sports clinics are not limited to wheelchair activities – most sports can be modified to meet the needs of injured warriors, including indoor rock climbing, golf, kayaking, surfing, sailing, tennis, skiing, snowboarding, cycling, sled hockey and more.

WWP hosts its Adaptive Sports clinics across the nation and collaborates closely with other adaptive sports providers such as the VA, DSUSA, Valor Games, Military Hospitals, and many local providers like the YMCA.
