BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Fire Rescue is saddened by the passing of retired Chief Don Boykin on April 20, 2019.

Don Boykin began his fire service career in District 5 Fire Control in 1972 and then with Brevard County Fire Rescue during consolidation.

He had many milestones during his tenure with BCFR; most notably Chief of the department from 1993-1998 as well as the head of BCFR Fleet Services, where he succeeded in building a modern fleet shop able to keep up with advancing vehicle technologies and demands.

He retired from Brevard County in 2003.

Many of our “seasoned” members of the department will remember Chief Boykin for another reason, his famous “Boykin Beans” which found their way onto the table of many department cookouts.

“There are only a few select people that have the recipe which is guarded better than KFC’s 11 herbs and spices,” said a BCFR spokesperson.

“Our thoughts are with the Boykin family and we will miss him dearly.”
