BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Christy Ihlo has joined the Brevard Zoo team as its new conservation coordinator.

Ihlo will oversee the Women of the Wild program while also playing a role in the expansion of the Zoo’s international conservation efforts.

After earning her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Tampa, Ihlo worked in various positions at Georgia Aquarium for five years before pursuing a graduate degree in environmental management at Duke University.

She then spent over two years in Tanzania with African People & Wildlife (APW) as director of monitoring and evaluation.

While working for APW, she “learned the importance of balancing the needs of nature and communities” to create a sustainable future for both.

“It’s really important to work with communities on conservation issues,” said Ihlo.

“I can’t wait to be a part of that conversation here at the Zoo and work with WOW members to get our message out to Brevard County and beyond.”
