Florida Tech Athletics Holds 47th Athletic Awards Banquet At Clemente Center

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – On Wednesday evening, the Florida Tech athletic department held its 47th Athletic Awards Banquet at the Clemente Center to commemorate the 2018-19 athletic year.

Former Florida Tech student-athlete and coach, Bino Campanini, emceed the annual event, while Athletics Director Bill Jurgens handed out a vast array of awards to recognize all the excellent achievements reached by the Panthers’ 21 sports teams.

The women’s softball team dethroned women soccer to win this year Panther Cup Champions, which is a points-based competition among Florida Tech’s varsity teams.

Women’s softball received the award for their academic and athletic performances, personal and career development, community involvement and support for other teams through the year.

The men’s swimming team was awarded the Male Team GPA Award for the first time in program history, posting the highest cumulative GPA among Florida Tech’s men’s sports through the fall 2018 semester at 3.442. The women’s golf team ended women’s tennis seven-year run as they won with a 3.596 GPA.

The Andy Seminick Sportsmanship Award went to men’s cross country Joe Berg and the Martha Work Sportsmanship award was given to Katrina Hand of both volleyball team and softball.

Becca Bower of volleyball and Derek Murphy of the men’s basketball team were the recipients of this year’s Comeback Player of the Year honors.

The Athletic Director’s Leadership Award was claimed by Vanessa Rubio of the women’s softball team, who is the President for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Logan Sweeney of the men’s lacrosse team received the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year went to Tereza Sedlakova of the women’s basketball team.

This year there were two Male Athletes of the Year awarded in senior’s Victor Rocha Furtado of the swimming team and J.T. Hassel of the football team. While Lucy Eaton, a senior on the women’s golf team, was named the Female Athlete of the Year.

In addition to the overall awards that were presented for Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a member of each team was recognized as being an Scholar-Athlete of the Year for their sport.

Earning the honor from the men’s sports were Jacon Buser (Men’s Baseball), Harry Craik (Men’s Basketball), Matthew Kraska (Men’s Cross Country), Jimmy Hinel (Football), Ali Thurlow (Men’s Golf), Logan Sweeney (Men’s Lacrosse), Billy Dietrich (Men’s Rowing), Paris Junior Roserie (Men’s Soccer), Harry Sale (Men’s Swimming) and Kleanthis Zisis (Men’s Tennis).

Receiving female Scholar-Athlete of the Year on behalf of their sport were Tereza Sedlakova (Women’s Basketball), Ana Regina Martinez Dehesa (Cheerleading & Dance), Pauline Cosson (Women’s Cross Country), Lucy Eaton (Women’s Golf), Leah Dunn (Women’s Lacrosse), Svetlana Ristin (Women’s Rowing), Maria Munoz (Women’s Soccer), Tina Velazquez Rolon (Softball), Valentina Carvajal Martinez (Women’s Swimming), Maria Chun (Women’s Tennis) and Kelly Germain (Volleyball).

A member of each team was also presented with an Athlete of the Year Award.

Hassel (Football), Max O’ Hagan (Men’s Golf), Daniel Flock (Men’s Lacrosse), Alex Webb (Men’s Tennis), Matas Lukoseuicius (Men’s Rowing), Mikkel Roisland (Men’s Soccer) and Victor Rocha Furtado (Men’s Swimming).

Receiving Female Athlete of the Year on behalf of their sport were Tereza Sedlakova (Women’s Basketball), Anna Hamelin (Cheerleading), Genevieve Lucas (Women’s Cross Country), Lucy Eaton (Women’s Golf) Sam Schiano (Women’s Lacrosse), Theresa Gadilhe (Women’s Rowing), Maria Munoz (Women’s Soccer), Melanie Murphy (Softball), Savannah Brennan (Women’s Swimming), Alahna Reto (Women’s Tennis) and Olivia Hersey (Volleyball).
