WASHINGTON, D.C. – Florida Tech’s 1V8 picked up two more wins Saturday during the second day of the George Washington Invitational, defeating two of the better programs in the nation in Georgetown and GW during head-to-head matchups on the Potomac River.

It was quite an impressive weekend for the Panthers’ V8 as they went undefeated over all three races, including an absolute rout of Holy Cross on Friday afternoon. Florida Tech joins the Naval Academy as the only M1V8’s to go undefeated during the two days.

In the first session on Saturday, V8 cruised to a comfortable win over Georgetown, finishing with a time of 5:41.60, more than six seconds ahead of the Hoyas (5:47.78).

Georgetown won the 2V8 race in a time of 5:47.12, ahead of the Panthers’ boat (5:57.93). However, Tech’s 2V8 did show improvement over its previous performance on Friday as the squad crossed the finish line almost 10 seconds faster on Saturday morning.

The V8 then knocked off George Washington in the final session of the weekend. The Panthers crossed the finish line in 5:35.09, edging out the host by just over three seconds (5:38.45). GW won the 2V8 matchup with a time of 5:47.32, while Tech put in another effort to finish at 5:58.57.

The Florida Tech men’s rowing team is back in action next weekend, Apr. 19-20, competing in the SIRA Championships at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Panthers return to Oak Ridge as back-to-back champions in both the V8 and the 2V8.
