BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In this week’s edition of “Sit Down with Steve,” Steve Wilson talks with longtime sportswriter Barbara Caywood.

Caywood is a true pioneer as she was only the third female sports writer in the country.

In what had been a male-only profession, she was not going to let her love of sports be denied simply because of her gender.

Caywood was born in Virginia, grew up in Ocala, Florida, worked in Kansas for a number of years and finally settled in Brevard County in 1984.

As prep sportswriter, Caywood covered all of the high schools on the Space Coast. If you played high school ball from 1984 until her retirement in 2005, there is a pretty good chance that you played in front of her.

Caywood is a member of the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame and the FHSAA Hall of Fame and has received multiple local and national honors.
