BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – This past weekend Corrections K-9 Deputy Mike Nettles, K-9 Titan, and K-9 Blue were called out to assist members of the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department with the search and rescue of a missing 6-year-old autistic child.

As Deputies from our South Precinct and Officers from various agencies responded to assist in the search, Deputy Nettles utilized K-9 Titan and K-9 Blue to attempt to track the child.

As the search was taking place the child was subsequently located in the apartment complex but investigators were unable to determine where the child had been for several hours.

Wanting to further the investigation, Deputy Nettles utilized both dogs to track back to where the child had been hidden and was led directly to an unoccupied and unlocked apartment.

Further investigation revealed that the child had been inside playing with the owner’s dogs as the child had previously seen the pets and decided to go visit them not knowing that the owners were not at home.

Please join me in commending Deputy Nettles and his K-9 partners for a job well done and also in thanking all of the first responders who worked so hard to make sure the young child was found safe and sound!
