Fifth Annual ‘Dancing for the Space Coast’ Set This Evening To Raise Money For Local Charities

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The fifth annual ‘Dancing for the Space Coast’ charity event is set to take place on Saturday, June 1, at Florida Tech’s Clemente Center.

Hosted by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Dancing for the Space Coast is an exciting event that teams up local celebrities with dance professionals, in a competition to benefit Brevard County nonprofit organizations.

“Each competitor dedicates their time and talents taking dance lessons and also diligently raises money as part of the competition,” said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey emceed last year’s Dancing for the Space Coast.

Like in previous years, 10% of the event’s proceeds go directly to support the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Charity, Inc., established to assist Brevard County law enforcement officers and fire fighter/paramedics in their time of need.

“I love this event,” said former Florida Tech President Dr. Anthony Catanese.

“This is the single biggest event in Brevard County.”

Sheriff Wayne Ivey recently announced the nonprofit organizations that would benefit this year’s event.

“I am proud to announce the charities that will benefit from Dancing for the Space Coast event this year are: Genesis House, Candlelighters of Brevard, ArtWorks of Eau Gallie and the Brevard Public Safety Charity.”

The event is known to be the biggest charitable event in Brevard County.

“It’s an amazing evening to share in great food, laughter, friends, and incredible dancing while raising money for deserving Brevard County charitable organizations,” said Ivey.

“Dancing For the Space Coast is a special event for me as an instructor,” said Heidi Arnold, owner and instructor at Dancin’ Dance Studio in Indialantic.

“You form a bond with these dancers every year and we prepare months ahead of this event so the relationship you build with them extends beyond Dancing For the Space Coast. We do it all for local charities in Brevard County, which makes the event even more special.”

Last year, more than 820 attendees gathered at Florida Tech’s Clemente Center for the fourth annual Dancing for the Space Coast. More than $340,000 was raised for local nonprofit organizations.

The program for this year’s event starts at 6:30 p.m.

This year’s sponsors include Brevard County Sheriff’s OfficeHarris Corp., Florida Institute of Technology and Space Coast Daily.
