No. 5 Florida Tech Leads After Day 1 At NCAA South Regional, Eaton Shoots 68

CLEVELAND, OHIO – No. 5 Florida Tech kicked off the NCAA South Regional in impressive fashion on Monday as the Panthers lead in both the team and individual standings after the opening round at Cleveland Country Club.

Tech posted a score of 294 (+6) over the first 18 holes at Cleveland CC’s par-72, 5,957-yard course and leads second-place No. 17 Saint Leo (+7) by one stroke. No. 4 Nova Southeastern is in third at +9 while No. 11 Limestone and No. 13 Florida Southern are tied for fourth at +10.

Lucy Eaton was the only golfer to card a sub-70 round on Monday, finishing with a 68 (-4). The senior opened the day with an eagle on hole 2 and then tapped in five more birdies and three bogeys over the remaining 16 holes. She headed into the clubhouse with a two-shot lead over Limestone’s Pilar Martinez (-2) and Saint Leo’s Isabel Nesteus (-2).

Megan Dennis kept a relatively clean scorecard, only tallying three bogeys with one birdie on the day. She joins Eaton in the Top-10 in seventh-place with a score of 74 (+2) during the first round. Noelle Beijer finds herself in a tie for 15th in the standings after recording a +3 with three birdies over the opening 18 holes.

Paola Ortiz had a rough front 9 to open the tournament, going +5 over those holes. However, the senior composed herself and went even with a birdie on the back 9 to finish the first round at 77 and in a tie for 37th.

Lauren Watson fired in a pair of birdies Monday and rounded out the Panthers in a tie for 57th at +9.

The second round of the NCAA South Regional commences Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Tech is set to tee off in the first groups of the morning off hole 10.
