BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA –  The Cocoa High School Choir performed a rousing fundraising concert in front of Macy’s at Merritt Square Mall Saturday.

The Cocoa High School Chorus, under the direction of Choral Director Dr. Misty Martinez, presented the concert to raise funds for their October trip to New York City to perform at Carnegie Hall.

“We were honored with an invitation to perform with two other schools at Carnegie Hall this October for the 2019 ‘National Fall Sing: Remembering 9/11,’” said Martinez.

To make the trip, the choir needs to raise $85,000 by the first week of September to accommodate the cost of $1,500 each for the 50-member choir and six chaperones.

“We are hoping that our community will get behind us and support our efforts to travel to New York City and represent Cocoa High School and Brevard County,” said Martinez.

“This is a big honor opportunity for our students, many of which have never been on an airplane,” said Martinez.

The $85,000 will cover airfare, hotel, travel, meals, and conductor while in New York City.

In addition to their appearance at Carnegie Hall, the group will take in the sights and sounds of the Big Apple, including jaunts to Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.
