BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting incident that occurred shortly after 8:30 p. m. Sunday evening at the Walmart, located at 1500 East Merritt Island Causeway, Merritt Island, where one person was shot dead.

The shooting victim’s identity has not been released at this time.

According to Tod Goodyear, Public Information Officer for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the scene is contained at this time and there is no danger to the community.

“Agents are currently responding to begin the investigation,” Goodyear said.

Goodyear added that a single shot was fired.

The store remained closed as authorities continued their investigation late Sunday evening.

The shooting suspect is in police custody.
