BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay High School announced the hiring of Dwayne Byrd as its new head football coach.

Byrd also, per his Twitter page, had previously been the offensive coordinator with the program.

He also has earned multiple degrees from Florida State.

“I am proud to say that I have accepted the Palm Bay Magnet High School Head Football Coach position,” said Byrd.

“I am blessed to be a part of this program after such a storied tradition and to follow such a legendary coach!”

Byrd replaces Dan Burke as head coach of Palm Bay High School.

Palm Bay High School announced the hiring of Dwayne Byrd as its new head football coach.  Byrd replaces Dan Burke, who retired after 23 seasons with the Pirates. “I am blessed to be a part of this program after such a storied tradition and to follow such a legendary coach!” said Byrd. Burke led the Pirates two state championships in 2000 and 2002 and is Brevard County’s all-time leader in wins with 214, according to the school.

Burke announced his retirement last month and was inducted into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
