BREVARD COUNTY • PORT ST. JOHN, FLORIDA – A Brevard County woman captured footage of a big black bear roaming through a neighborhood near Key Largo Dr. on Saturday.

The bear is seen running from door to door of houses in the neighborhood.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission estimates that only 3,000 Florida black bears remain in eight isolated habitats throughout the state.

With new development areas on the rise, wildlife is forced out of their habitat which causes more interactions with humans as bears look for food.

Fortunately, the Florida black bear population is growing, according to FWC. Florida has more bears now than at any time in the last 100 years.

But the conservation efforts are not finished as there is still work to be done to protect the beautiful bears.
