BREVARD COUNTY • INDIALANTIC, FLORIDA – A yet-to-be-identified Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy was wounded in a gun battle Tuesday evening at approximately 8:30 p.m. after responding to a disturbance call at a residence on Avenida De La Vista in unincorporated Indialantic.

According to Brevard County Sheriff’s Office PIO Tod Goodyear, as the deputy approached the residence, he was ambushed by a gunman who was armed with a rifle.

Despite being shot multiple times, the Deputy was able to return fire, killing his assailant.

“The deputy was transported to a local hospital in serious condition where he is currently undergoing emergency medical treatment for his injuries,” said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

“The investigation is ongoing as Agents are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence at the scene.”

At this time, the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the names of the deputy or assailant involved in this incident.

The Deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave as is customary in officer-involved shootings.
