SPACE COAST DAILY TV: Space Coast Area Transit will join transportation systems across the nation to celebrate the 14th annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 20.

Riders can ride the bus for free that day by downloading the 321Transit app on their mobile device and showing it to their bus driver, or by printing a bus ticket off SpaceCoastDaily.com

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Space Coast Area Transit will join transportation systems across the nation to celebrate the 14th annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 20.

Riders can ride the bus for free that day by downloading the 321Transit app on their mobile device and showing it to their bus driver, or by printing the below bus ticket off SpaceCoastDaily.com.

According to Scott Nelson, the Director of Space Coast Area Transit, the number one reason people ride the bus is to get to their jobs.

“Many of our customers rely on Space Coast Area Transit for their livelihood. Our entire team is passionate providing the transportation our riders need to support themselves and their families,” he said.

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) created Dump the Pump Day to highlight the many benefits of using public transportation. According to APTA:

• A two-person household can save over $9,000 a year by downsizing to one car

• Public transportation reduces our nation’s carbon emissions by 37 million metric tons annually, equivalent to Washington, DC; New York City; Atlanta; Denver; and Los Angeles combined, stopping their use of electricity

• 87% of public transit trips positively impact the economy

• Every $1 invested in public transportation generates $4 in economic returns

• Every $10 million in operating investment yields $32 million in increased business sales

• Public transportation is a billion-dollar industry that employs more than 400,000 people
