BREVARD SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY: Suspect Wanted to Rape and Kill Child, Assist in Murder of his Wife

SPACE COAST DAILY TV: Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey announced on Tuesday morning the arrest of a man that he says wanted to rape and kill a child and wanted help to assist in the murder of his wife. 

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey announced on Tuesday morning the arrest of a man that he says wanted to rape and kill a child and wanted help to assist in the murder of his wife. 

Danny James McLaughlin, 59, of Colorado was arrested on May 17 and was indicted by a federal grand jury in Orlando in June on charges of online enticement of a child, distribution of child pornography and solicitation to commit murder.

“Our investigation began when an undercover agent from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office received an online message from McLaughlin about raping and killing a child,” Ivey said.

“Over the course of several days, our agent communicated with McLaughlin who advised that he wanted to sexually abuse and kill a child and also wanted the undercover agent to assist in the murder of his wife.”

Ivey added that after that point,  the suspect discussed with the agent a plan whereby they and the child would travel to Colorado. The suspect added that if the agent helped murder McLaughlin’s wife, it would allow the suspect to have time to keep the child as a “rape toy” before killing them.

“McLaughlin further advised that the murder could best be done on a Sunday when his wife always attended a meeting and he actually provided several very descriptive ways that he believed the murder should take place,” said Ivey, who added that McLaughlin offered to pay the agent to travel to Colorado and sent them specific information regarding his wife’s location on Sundays.

The agent went to Colorado and met with the suspect. At the meeting, BCSO says the suspect explained why he wanted to have his wife killed and also informed the agent about the details of his plan to sexually abuse and torture the child.

“That was one of the big components of this is seeing the just horrific things the individual was talking about doing, we wanted to make sure we got boots on the ground in Colorado where we could further the case,” Ivey said. “…He actually said he had done this before and was willing to further it. He already made one payment and was going to make two more.”

After the suspect admitted that he had experience in molesting children, he was placed under arrest and transported to Florida.
