The team is ready and excited for its state championship tournament games and Susong and Wilson talked with the players and manager about the tourney, which will start Friday in Dunedin. MERRITT ISLAND ADVANCES to the State of Florida 8-9-10 Baseball Tournament in Dunedin on July 5 with District 22 and Section 3 titles under their belts.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Merritt Island 8-9-10-year-old All-Star baseball team visited the Space Coast Daily-Friday Night Locker Room Mike Erdman Cadillac Studio to visit with the Friday Night Locker Room’s Orville Susong and Steve Wilson.

The team is ready and excited for its state championship tournament games and Susong and Wilson talked with the players and manager about the tourney, which will start Friday in Dunedin.

In baseball action at W.W. James Park in Titusville last week, Merritt Island 8/9/10 baseball was a big winner as they are now the District 22 and Section 3 champions and advance to the state baseball tournament in Dunedin on July 5.

• GAME ONE: San Mateo 6, Deland 5

After a single to reach base, Kyler Long started the scoring to give San Mateo a 1-0 lead in the first. Deland would battle back in the bottom of the second after back-to-back singles from Samuel Rodgers and Jackson Bowman started the ball rolling. Rodgers, Shiloh Gallimore and Cristian Baez would all come in to score and give Deland a 3-1 lead.

Deland would extend their lead to 4-1 in the third inning after William Freed singled and scored. San Mateo fought back in the top of the fourth inning. Consecutive hits from Jaydin Morrissey, Javon Johnson and Jacob Rohn provided the spark and they would all come in to score.

Logan Taylor would later walk and score to put San Mateo ahead 5-4. Deland tied the game at 5 in the bottom of the fourth after Brian Gannon scored. San Mateo would start off the fifth inning with back-to-back singles. Jaydin Morrissey would plate the final run of the game to give his team a 6-5 lead.

Journey Sutton pitched a scoreless sixth inning to preserve the victory.

• GAME TWO: Merritt Island 12, Deland 2

This game would see the visitors from Merritt Island Little League taking on the home team from Deland Little League.

Merritt Island would get the bats working early and score ten runs in the first two innings. Ty Brandes started the game with a leadoff double and would score on an RBI single from Liam Miller.

Aiden Doherty had the hot bat as he tripled twice and finished the game 2-for-2. Deland cut into the lead in the bottom of the second inning by scoring two runs after William Freed and Kayden Sanders both walked and scored.

Merritt Island would put the game out of reach in the fourth inning. Rocco Amunategui singled and scored on an RBI single from Knox Silva to make the score 12-2. Vince Barchanowicz tossed three strong innings for Merritt Island and Zane Taival pitched a scoreless fourth to preserve the win.

• GAME THREE: Merritt Island 9, San Mateo 1

Game 3 would be the championship game between the visiting San Mateo Little League and the home team of Merritt Island Little League. After a scoreless first inning, Merritt Island would come alive in the bottom of the second.

Aiden Doherty again had the hot bat, doubling and scoring on an RBI single by Landon Ellis. Grant Arnold also singled and scored to give Merritt Island a 5-0 lead. San Mateo would score their only run of the game in the third inning after Journey Sutton singled and scored on an RBI double by Kyler Long.

Merritt Island would go on to put the game out of reach after Nathaniel Watson, Zane Taival and Doherty all came around to score, making the final 9-1. Ty Brandes threw a complete game for Merritt Island giving up only four hits while striking out ten San Mateo hitters.
