BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For over a decade, Space Coast residents have been a part of Operation Christmas Child, a global project that shares the true meaning of Christmas with children around the world.

On August 24, Eau Gallie First Baptist Church in Melbourne will host a Project Leaders Workshop where volunteers from around the Space Coast will gather to kick off the Samaritan’s Purse project’s collection season with the goal of packing 12,512 shoeboxes this year with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items.

These gift-filled shoeboxes will contribute to the project’s global goal of reaching more than 11 million children in Jesus’ Name.

In preparation for National Collection week where boxes will be collected and sent to processing centers, the Space Coast Team is hosting a Project Leader workshop on August 24th at Eau Gallie First Baptist Church in Melbourne.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about the ministry and meet members of the community who have packed shoeboxes for decades.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the event will start at 10 a.m. Refreshments are included. Attendees are invited to attend the Prayer Luncheon immediately following the workshop.

The Space Coast drop-off locations will be the first stop on a journey across the globe for thousands of gifts packed by local families. Together with the church worldwide, Operation Christmas Child will deliver these gifts to children in need overseas using whatever means necessary—boats, airplanes, trains and even elephants.

Information and updates will also be provided to equip volunteers to pack shoebox gifts and encourage others to do the same. If interested, please contact Area Coordinator Lynne Phillips at 321-258-4918.

Those who prefer the convenience of online shopping can browse samaritanspurse.org/buildonline to select gifts matched to a child’s specific age and gender, then finish packing the virtual shoebox by adding a photo and personal note of encouragement.
