BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – A 19-year-old Rockledge man has been arrested for second-degree murder after a botched home invasion in Melbourne on March 16.

Ryan Robert Winfough, 19, was charged with second-degree murder and home invasion.

The home invasion led to the death of his accomplice 22-year-old Evan Jackman.

According to law enforcement authorities, even though Winfough was not the shooter of the crime the law allows suspects to be arrested for murder if someone dies during the commission of a crime.

The report shows that a group of men broke into a home of a resident on the 1200 block of North Wickham Road in Melbourne on March 16.

After hearing a knock on the door, the resident went to answer the door but was greeted by the suspects who kicked in the door and pointed a rifle at the of the resident.

After being told to lie on the ground, the suspects began searching the house where they took money, two handguns and four pounds of cannabis from the home.

As the group of suspected robbers left the house, the resident went to retrieve a firearm, loaded the gun and began shooting at the suspects. Police say 17 shots were fired at the suspects.

While trying to get away, the resident shot Jackman in the head as he attempted to flee on a motorcycle.

Winfough eventually got away, but later contacted police where he admitted to being involved with the planning of the home invasion.

Winfough is currently at the Brevard County Jail and a court date is scheduled for April 21 in front of Judge Judy Atkin.

The resident has not been charged for the shooting.
