BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – President Donald Trump has approved a recent request made by Gov. Ron DeSantis to declare that a major disaster exists in Florida.

The White House says the decision will make federal funding available for the state and impacted local governments, as well as some nonprofit organizations.

The declaration was submitted as a result of the COVID-19 response for the incident period beginning January 20, 2020, for all 67 counties.

In addition to the Individual Assistance Programs, the declaration will also grant requests for additional resources and support from FEMA.

“The process of triaging and isolating affected individuals is significantly disrupting lifesaving and life-sustaining services,” said Gov. Ron DeSantis.

“Additionally, the insufficient medical resources and capacities of medical facilities and the already limited number of qualified medical personnel will only continue to rapidly deplete as the impacts of COVID-19 continue to spread.”
