BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville City Councilman and Vice Mayor Dan Diesel won the mayor’s seat unopposed on Thursday.

His unopposed mayoral victory capped a very busy four-year span that started in April of 2016 when the former head football announced his candidacy for Seat 3 on the Titusville City Council.

“It is an incredible honor for me to be the Mayor-elect of my home town – of Titusville – a city that I have loved to my core since moving here in 1965 as a 7-year-old space program kid as my Dad was transferred here from St. Louis with McDonald Douglas,” said Diesel.

“This surely rivals my being able to live out my coaching for 35 years at my alma mater Titusville High School! Being the mayor of my lifelong city. A city where I grew up and made all of my lifelong friends and memories is a big deal to me,
I am blessed.”

In May of 2016, Diesel was inducted into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame, and three months later in August of 2016, Diesel won 54 percent of the vote against three other candidates and became a Titusville City Councilman.

Considering Diesel’s nearly 35 years spent at Titusville high school, staying busy is the only way the 2007 State of Florida Athletic Director of the Year knows how to live.

During his three-plus decade-long tenure as a Terrier, Diesel coached and advocated for a wide range of sports, from football and wrestling to golf and bowling. He coached seven different sports and no fewer than two sports a year for 25 years.

With the Titusville football team, Diesel served as assistant coach on championship, semi-final and quarterfinal teams, and head coach for four post-season play teams.

Becoming Titusville Mayor is a natural next step for Diesel who has been widely honored as a councilman, teacher and coach.

Titusville named him Teacher of the Year in 1994 and in 2009, Diesel received the Eddie Marrin Spirit of Golf National Mentor of the Year Award. Cape Coast Conference singled him out twice as Girls’ Golf Coach of the Year and he was thrice selected as Space Coast Boys’ Golf Coach of the Year.

In 1995, Diesel was named the FACA Class 5A District Football Coach of the Year. As if being an administrator, coach, and politician isn’t enough, Dan Diesel is first and foremost a husband and father.

The St.Louis native and Titusville raised Diesel has been married to his loving wife Barbara for 35 years. They have three sons who have all followed in their dad’s footsteps.

Matt, Dan Diesel’s oldest son, has followed in his father’s footsteps as a high school educator and football coach.
