BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – The Cape Canaveral City Council voted to appoint interim City Manager Todd Morley to the position of City Manager during a meeting last Tuesday.

An employment agreement will be presented to City Council at the July 21 meeting.

Prior to being appointed interim city manager last October, Morley was the city’s economic development director and has 18 years of experience with the city.

A life-long resident of Brevard County, Morley was born at Cape Canaveral Hospital and is a graduate of Cocoa High School and the University of Central Florida.

Morley’s career began in the family construction business which provided him an opportunity to obtain his contractor license and start a career building custom homes and additions.

This led to a fateful friendship with a Brevard County building official who encouraged him to join the ranks during an internship under Jim McKnight’s leadership at the City of Rockledge.

Morley was then hired by the City of Cape Canaveral in 2002 as a full-time building inspector and left his contracting days behind him.

He was promoted to the Building Official position in 2003, the Community and Economic Development Director in 2010 and the Economic Development Director in 2015.

“I enjoy the economic development side of city business because it gives me the opportunity to use relationship building skills to an even greater degree,” said Morley.

“This includes working with the council, developers, government agencies and many other liaison roles with the common goal of consensus building.”

When he took over as interim city manager last October he said his goals include promoting and encouraging unity and civility on city council; continually supporting the city vision statement through the evolution of capital projects, creative ideas and innovative concepts; redeveloping aging buildings to reduce blight; and maintaining the community’s unique quality of life.

“The community has made it clear that they want someone in this position (city manager) who is fair,” said Morley. “I am that guy.”
