BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Todd Simmerman, 30, of Mims, was been sentenced to 60 years in Federal prison by the Honorable Federal Judge Roy B. Dalton Jr. in Orlando, Florida, for sexually exploiting two minors and committing the offenses while required to register as a sex offender.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began when a 15-year-old female came forward to the Sheriff’s Office advising she had a sexual relationship with Simmerman.

The Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit arrested Simmerman for violations of his Sex Offender registration requirements at which time his electronic devices were seized.

During the forensic examination of the devices by Sheriff’s Office computer forensic specialists, evidence was discovered that Simmerman had actively recorded the sexual encounters with the juvenile.

This discovery also led to the identification of a second underage victim.

A Sheriff’s Agent assigned to the Homeland Security Investigations Task Force presented the case to the United States Attorney’s Office for federal prosecution, which resulted in Simmerman pleading guilty to the charges on January 27, 2020.

Simmerman was previously arrested for Travelling to Meet a Minor in June of 2012 as part of “Operation Cyber-Child” in Polk County.

He received a two-year prison sentence in October of 2013 and was released from the Florida Department of Corrections in January of 2015 with the requirement to register as a Sex Offender.

This investigation was a cooperative effort by agents from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and the Immigration Customs Enforcement/Homeland Security Investigations. It was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office, Middle District of Florida, Orlando.
