Satellite Beach Police Chief Jeff Pearson, above right with Sheriff Wayne Ivey, was sworn in by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody as the 66th President of the Florida Police Chiefs Association during a virtual ceremony in the City Council Chambers on Monday. “Chief Pearson is a great choice to lead the Florida Police Chiefs Association,” said Brevard County Sheriff Ivey.

BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – Satellite Beach Police Chief Jeff Pearson was sworn in by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody as the 66th President of the Florida Police Chiefs Association during a virtual ceremony in the City Council Chambers on Monday.

Chief Pearson has been with the Satellite Beach Police Department since 1987 and was promoted to Police Chief in 2011.

“Chief Pearson is a great choice to lead the Florida Police Chiefs Association,” said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Founded in 1952, the Florida Police Chiefs Association is the third largest state police chiefs association in the United States.

It is composed of more than 900 of the state’s top law enforcement executives and serves municipal police departments, airport police, college and university police, and tribal police, private business and security firms, as well as federal, state and county law enforcement agencies.

The Satellite Beach Police Department is comprised of 23 sworn law enforcement officers, 15 full or permanent part-time civilian support personnel including dispatchers, along with 6 school crossing guards.

Chief Pearson is responsible for all department operations such as the patrol division, criminal investigations division, records division, and evidence division, along with the police department’s administration, operations, policies and budget.

He started as a dispatch trainee and was hired as a full-time dispatcher in March 1987. In 1988 he worked as the midnight shift dispatcher while attending the police academy during the day.

In April 1989, he was hired as a fulltime police officer. In 1990 he was transferred to detective division where he spent just under three years.

In 1993 Chief Pearson was promoted to Corporal and assigned to road patrol. In 1994 he was promoted to Sergeant. In 2002 he was promoted to the position of Staff Sergeant.

In January of 2005, Chief Pearson was promoted to the position of Investigations Commander and was responsible for the detective division, communications and the school resource officers.

In October of 2008, he was promoted to Deputy Chief where he was responsible for the Field Training Officer Program, Motorcycle Unit, Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit and the DUI enforcement program, Budgeting, Evidence and Records.

Chief Pearson moved to Brevard County from Rochester, New York in 1979 and attended Satellite High School. He then graduated with an Associate’s Degree from Brevard Community College in 1990 earned a Bachelor’s degree in 2003 from the University of Central Florida. He also holds a Masters’s degree in Public Administration from Webster University.
