BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Fire Rescue 45 responded to U.S. 1 and State Road 520 in Cocoa last month and found a T-bone-style accident involving a motorcycle, with Jordan Harvey sustaining critical injuries.

In what was described as “the most challenging trauma call I’ve run in my career,”  Dan Monahan and his partner, Firefighter Jeremy Hoffower, worked at a feverish pace utilizing many basic and advanced skills to save Harvey’s life.

Harvey was transferred to a medical helicopter for a flight to a local trauma center, where he would receive the care he would need to survive.

Last Thursday, Harvey’s mother visited the station to thank the crew for all they had done to save her son’s life and the crew was reunited with Jordan for the first time since the accident.

“Trauma calls such as this one oftentimes do not have favorable outcomes, so today was a very special day for all involved,” said a Brevard County Fire Rescue spokesperson.

“We would also like to point out that it wasn’t just one person or agency that is responsible for great outcomes such as this. That night, BCFR, the 911 dispatchers, Cocoa Fire Department, Cocoa Police Department, the Air Care Team, the trauma surgeons, physicians, nursing staff, and many more, all played a role in this critically injured patient’s survival.

“Great job by all and especially to LT Dan Monahan and FF Jeremy Hoffower for their outstanding patient care that night.”
