BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Jim Kennedy, Democratic challenger for the 8th Congressional District of the U.S. House of Representatives, is taking on the incumbent Bill Posey in the General Election on Nov. 3.

Kennedy, Democratic Congressional candidate for Florida’s 8th District had a motorcycle accident, which led him to seek political office to reform health insurance coverage for Veterans.

“My motorcycle accident could have been financially devastating for our family and I saw how veterans like myself were susceptible to financial ruin, due to lack of insurance coverage,” said Kennedy during his exclusive interview with Space Coast Daily.

During the accident on Merritt Island, near where Kennedy resides, he received severe injuries to his left leg when he was riding his cruiser motorcycle to meet friends.

“It was not anyone’s fault, but it showed me how the Medicare and Veterans Administration systems do not provide sufficient insurance coverage for veterans and others who have served our country.”

Kennedy, a Navy Veteran and currently a rocket scientist, will give up his current profession to serve his district, should he be successful in defeating the Republican incumbent Bill Posey in the November 3rd General Election.

Jim Kennedy differs from Posey regarding women’s reproductive rights.

“I absolutely believe that a woman should be able to control what happens with her body and no government should dictate that,” said Kennedy.

An engineer/scientist who lives in Merritt Island and works at the Kennedy Space Center, Kennedy’s father served in the Air Force in Vietnam, reaching the rank of tech sergeant. After leaving the Air Force, he taught electronics and later became a systems engineer for General Dynamics.

Kennedy’s mother was a homemaker and a beloved wife. Around the time her children finished elementary school, she went back to college and earned a degree in education. She worked as a teacher and administrator until her retirement.
