BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools announced Monday evening that after consulting with the Brevard Department of Health, the decision was made to quarantine the Merritt Island High School football team as a result of a positive COVID-19 test.
The Department of Health has notified all staff and families of student-athletes who were in close contact with the individual who confirmed positive and has requested they quarantine for 14 days.
According to Brevard Public Schools officials, the Mustangs will forfeit their next two scheduled games on October 23 versus Satellite and October 30 versus Astronaut.
Currently, the football team is scheduled to resume play on November 6.
Areas, where the football team congregated, will undergo deep cleaning and sanitizing. During the quarantine period, students will continue with their classes via e-Learning.
Earlier on Monday, Brevard Public School officials made the decision to cancel this week’s Eau Gallie at Rockledge football game due to a COVID-19 outbreak at Eau Gallie High School last week.
