UPDATE: One Person Dead After Crash in Merritt Island Involving Two Motorcycles, One Vehicle

Brevard County Fire Rescue crews have responded to the scene of a crash that involved two motorcycles and a vehicle near 1000 block of N. Courtenay Pkwy. in Merritt Island.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Brevard County Fire Rescue crews responded to a deadly crash on Thursday that involved two motorcycles and a vehicle near 1000 block of N. Courtenay Pkwy. and Catalina Isle Dr. in Merritt Island.

The driver of one of the motorcycles has been identified as a 22-year-old man from Jacksonville, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The other unidentified motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the investigation by FHP, a 61-year-old Titusville woman was traveling in a vehicle southbound on Courtenay Pkwy. around 4 p.m. when witnesses say two motorcyclists were traveling northbound on Courtenay Pkwy. at a high rate of speed and splitting in-between lanes.

As the woman attempted to turn left across traffic into the plaza in Merritt Island, the two motorcyclists collided into her vehicle.

One of the motorcyclists died at the scene, while the other was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The Titusville woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to FHP.

The result of the crash caused major delays along N. Courtenay Pkwy. in Merritt Island. Motorists were  advised to avoid the area and find an alternate route.
