Suspect Wanted for Injuring West Melbourne Police Officer Friday Morning Has Been Arrested

Authorities in Brevard County have arrested the suspect who injured a West Melbourne Police officer Friday morning after a brief police chase that ended with the suspect overturning the stolen vehicle in Rockledge. 

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Authorities in Brevard County have arrested the suspect who injured a West Melbourne Police officer Friday morning after a brief police chase that ended with the suspect overturning the stolen vehicle in Rockledge.

The suspect is identified as 32-year-old Blake James Myers from Fort Lauderdale.

Police received information around 11:45 a.m. on Friday that the vehicle of the suspect in question was seen on Milwaukee Blvd.

When officers responded to the area, they noticed the vehicle turn onto Interstate I-95 from US-192, traveling northbound.

As police officers followed the vehicle, Brevard County Sheriff’s Helicopter responded to the area to help maintain visual of the vehicle.

When the vehicle eventually exited off the interstate onto Wickham Rd., police then attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle.

However, the vehicle fled and officers of the West Melbourne Police Department, assisted by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and Rockledge Police Department engaged in the pursuit.

While eluding officers, the vehicle flipped on its side coming to a stop in the 800 block of Gardener Rd. in Rockledge.

“The suspect driver took off on foot. While running from officers, the suspect was holding a bag and continued to reach into the bag. This caused alarm to the officers in pursuit so the suspect was tased and taken into custody without further incident,” said Sergeant Graig Erenstoft of the West Melbourne Police Department.

Officers then conducted a search of the bag which contained several types of drugs and a black replica firearm (Fake gun).

Police say the Jeep was reported stolen out of Broward County on December 21, 2020.

Myers has been booked into the Brevard County Jail with no bond and has been charged with the following:
– Aggravated Battery (Two Counts)
– Resisting Law Enforcement with Violence (Two Counts)
– Possession of Controlled Substance
– Grand Theft Auto
– Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding (Two Counts)
– Leaving the Scene of a Crash with injuries
– Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage
– Driving While License Suspended

West Melbourne Police were asking for the community’s help in identifying and locating suspect that injured a police officer Friday morning near Coastal Lane and US-192.

Police say they were called to the area around 8 a.m. when a passerby noticed a driver was passed out behind the wheel.

After a police officer made contact with the individual, he became uncooperative with the officer’s demands.

The officer then attempted to remove the suspect from the vehicle. However, the driver placed the vehicle in gear and accelerated while officers were still engaged. As one of the officers held on to the moving vehicle, he eventually let go and was violently thrown into a boat trailer that was waiting at a nearby traffic light.

The vehicle was last seen traveling east on US 192.

The driver is described as a middle aged, white male, light brown or red long hair, and a beard.

The vehicle is described as a later model, black Jeep, with a distinctive red bumper, red rims and no top.

The tag on the vehicle had a Florida license plate (134YNH), which was recently reported stolen.
