Erica Kincaid has exemplified herself as a 9-1-1 'unsung hero'

The Palm Bay Police Department honored Erica Kincaid as the 2020 telecommunicator of the year. “Erica has a hand in almost every operation within the Communications Center; from manning a position, training new employees, supervising her shift, managing the agency’s CJIS and DAVID operations, and playing a monumental role in building an entirely new CAD system from the ground up – Erica is truly a behind-the-scenes 9-1-1 hero at our agency,” said officials in honoring Kincaid.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Police Department honored Erica Kincaid as the 2020 telecommunicator of the year.

Palm Bay police officials said that throughout the unprecedented year of 2020, there hasn’t been much that Kincaid hasn’t done to exemplify herself as a 9-1-1 “unsung hero.”

Kincaid is currently Palm Bay Police Department’s Communications Assistant Shift Supervisor assigned to the Day Shift.

She began her tenure in 2013 and has used her more than seven years of experience to develop herself into a 9-1-1 subject matter expert and leader amongst her peers.

“No matter what position in the Communications Center she is working, be it 9-1-1, police radio, or teletype, she is diligent in knowing every incident being worked in the city and is always two steps ahead,” said Palm Bay police officials.

“When ‘stuff’ hits the fan, there is no doubt that Erica is a driving force keeping it all together from the Communications Center.”

Kincaid spends her “downtime,” if there is such a thing in a Communications Center, managing the agency’s CJIS and DAVID accounts.

These duties include creating accounts for new employees, assigning appropriate levels of access based on agency assignment, tracking certification expirations, making recertification training notifications, monitoring system transactions for potential misuse, conducting over 50 audits quarterly, and ensuring the agency’s overall criminal justice system access compliance.

“There is no incentive for Erica to complete these tasks as they are completely outside of her normal scope of duty – she does them out of the passion she has for the Communications Center,” said Palm Bay police officials.

“Erica was also instrumental in building the Communication Center’s new CAD system. This required a great deal of work and Erica did not hesitate to take a lead role with this project and to ensure an easy transition.”
