BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Police Department honored Desk Booking Specialist Kendall McMullen as the 2020 Civilian of the Year.

McMullen has served the Palm Bay Police Department for approximately four years as a Desk Booking Specialist, which assists with prisoner care in Palm Bay’s holding facility and handles non-emergency calls for service.

She assists with training new desk booking specialists and often volunteers to help with anything else that makes day-to-day operations run efficiently.

McMullen’s supervisors went on to give her kudos on social media:

Last year, our agency transitioned to a new computer-aided dispatch system. It required many months of training members of our team who would then train the rest of the members. DBS McMullen immediately volunteered to assist with training the agency. She became an integral part of the transition team.

Because of her attention to detail and her desire to learn the new program, she became extremely comfortable with and knowledgeable of the software. Her expertise was needed for those who didn’t have an opportunity for training or who were hired after the initial training days.

She has trained most of the Investigations and Uniform Services Divisions. Her attitude of being a team player and commitment and willingness to do anything to help indeed made this transition a success.

McMullen also goes above and beyond with every call for service she handles.

Part of her duties is to handle calls that are initiated in our department lobby. In several cases, she handled thorough fraud cases. In one particular investigation, she spoke to a victim at length to acquire the locations where credit card fraud had taken place.

After receiving detailed suspect information, she called several businesses inquiring if the suspect was captured on their surveillance system. The footage was located and submitted as evidence.

Through DBS McMullen’s work, the suspect was arrested by detectives. DBS McMullen also writes a detailed report and takes the necessary steps to help detectives and the prosecution with criminal cases.

“Please join us in congratulating Desk Booking Specialist McMullen on this deserving award and on a job well done,” said Palm Bay police officials.
