Turtle Splash! will be live on Facebook

WATCH: In 1997, Morgan Malfara was born with a rare form of leukodystrophy, a rare genetic disorder that affects brain function and arrives with a grim prognosis of progressive deterioration ending in death. Morgan was given a year, perhaps two, by doctors. Morgan’s parents, Kristen and Robert Malfara, refused to believe it. “There is always hope,” said Kristen Malfara.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The M.O.R.G.A.N. Project will present their signature annual fundraising event, “Turtle Splash!” on Saturday, May 1 – live on Facebook as thousands of numbered plastic turtles will race their way to the finish line in a pool instead of the river like in previous years.

This is the 16th year for this community event to benefit The M.O.R.G.A.N. Project’s Quality-of-Life support programs for children with disabilities, and turtle adoptions are now available HERE.

“We are so pleased to be able to give back in our community by assisting these families with special needs, and all proceeds from this event will support our new Morgan’s Legacy Gift program,” said Kristen Malfara, M.O.R.G.A.N. Project founder and executive director.

Malfara encourages people to “adopt” the plastic numbered turtles for a $5 donation each and be eligible to win valuable prizes, including the Grand Prize 7-day cruise for 2 on Holland America valued at more tan $5,000 – with no expiration date!

Also up for for grabs are 10 other great prizes.

Turtle adoptions are now available HERE. Every dollar raised by this event will directly benefit a child with a disability and their family through the Morgan’s Legacy Gift program.

Malfara also announced that a generous donor has stepped up to help and will be giving away free turtle adoptions through social media channel contests, as well as providing fun additions to the incredible prize packages.

“In this unprecedented era of social distancing, this virtual event will go on by being broadcast live on Facebook from my backyard pool,” said Sharon Jeavons, president and race director for the event.

“Like most charities in our community, being closed for business has caused a financial hardship for our small organization, and this event will go a long way towards business as usual.”
