POLICE: subject was shot after failing to respond to orders

Palm Bay Police officers shot and wounded an armed murder suspect about 4 p.m. Sunday who had been the focus of an hours-long manhunt Sunday afternoon in NE Palm Bay.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Police officers shot and wounded an armed murder suspect about 4 p.m. Sunday who had been the focus of an hours-long manhunt Sunday afternoon in NE Palm Bay.

According to Palm Bay Police Lt. Jeff Spears, officers took the 28-year-old suspect into custody following a tip from a resident.

“During the encounter with officers, the subject was shot after failing to respond to orders,” said Lt. Spears.

No police officers were injured.

“The subject was captured in the 400 block of Karney Avenue, near the intersection of Karney Avenue and Dogwood Street, and transported from the scene for medical attention,” said Lt. Spears.

“The subject is a person of interest tied to a homicide investigation in Martin County.”

The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay police officers are in the area of Fallon Boulevard, east of Babcock Street, searching for an armed suspect on Sunday.

The suspect is described by police as a black male wearing a black shirt, blue pants with teal and white stripes and black shoes.

Police describe the suspect as having a long beard.

Officers are requesting that citizens to remain in their residences and refrain from entering the area.

If the suspect is located, police ask you to call 911.
