BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech posted strong results on Saturday earning three top-2 results, including a victory by the top Varsity 4 boat, while facing Stetson and Embry-Riddle at the Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center in Deland, Florida.

It was a great bounce-back performance after the crew lost in both events to JU last weekend at Canal 54.

The Varsity 8s got the day started with Tech finishing second overall at a time of 5:51.67, less than two seconds behind Stetson (5:49.87) and more than 35 seconds faster than third place Embry-Riddle (6:27.22).

“It was a good race in the V8,” said head coach Jim Granger. “After trailing for the first 1,500 meters, we rowed through them but hit a buoy with about 10 strokes left in the race.

All around, big improvement from our race with JU last weekend. Proud of the guys for rowing hard after falling behind early.”

Florida Tech cruised to a victory in the 1V4 race, crossing the line in a time of 6:38.17, more than five seconds before Stetson (6:43.28). ERAU ended in third at 7:00.78.

Stetson won the 2V4, finishing with a time of 6:44.31. Tech claimed runner-up at 7:10.51. Stetson-B (7:47.86) and Embry-Riddle (8:02.86) finished third and fourth overall.

Florida Tech is not scheduled to compete until the IRA National Championship Regatta on May 28-29 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey.
