Former Cocoa Tiger, Tampa Bay Bucs’ Jamel Dean Talks About ‘Beat the Players’ Golf Fundraiser Tournament on April 10

BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back and Cocoa High Schools’ very own Jamel Dean spoke with Space Coast Daily’s Juan Rodriguez on the upcoming ‘Beat the Players’ golf fundraiser tournament on April 10 at Turtle Creek Golf Course.

The Turtle Creek Golf Course is located at 1278 Admiralty Boulevard in Rockledge.

Tee time is set for 8 a.m.

According to the promoters, several more surprise Tampa Bay Buccaneer guests, along with a host of former and current NFL players and coaches will be in attendance.

Jamel Dean

Former Cocoa Tiger Jamel Dean was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round of the 109 National Football League draft with the 94th overall pick.

Dean was among former Cocoa High School head coach John Wilkinson’s best two-way players during his Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame career for the Tigers.

Playing on back-to-back 11-2 state playoff teams for coach Wilkinson, Dean was a two-time Florida first-team Class 4A all-state pick at Cocoa High, totaling 975 offensive yards, including 22 receptions and 15 touchdowns in 2014 to earn all-state honors as a receiver.

He also had 38 tackles, two pass breakups, and one interception in 2013  and also had seven pass breakups as a senior and scored nine touchdowns as a junior.

The host of the April 10 golf tournament is Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame’s very own James Folston.

Folston, a Cocoa High School graduate and who was an All-American college football player, and a former player in the National Football League is one of the best athletes to come out Brevard County.

After graduating from Cocoa High School, Folston signed a football scholarship to attend Northeast Louisiana, which is now known as the University of Louisiana Monroe.

By the time Folston graduated, he was a college All-American.

He was then drafted by the Los Angeles Raiders in the 2nd Round of the 1994 NFL draft.

His career in the NFL spanned eight years, playing for both the Raiders and the Arizona Cardinals.
