BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA –  With only a couple weeks to go until Brevard County’s biggest charity fundraiser of the year, the 2021 ‘Dancing for the Space Coast’ dancers are beginning to hone in on their dance routines as the event fast approaches on Saturday, June 5, at the old Stein Mart in Melbourne.

One of the competitors in this year’s event is Christina Grainger, who is an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at Health First, advanced practice registered nurse at The Refinery Medspa & Wellness and author of The Teddy Bear with the Red Backpack.

Christina Grainger, 38, is a Florida native who has been fortunate enough to call the beautiful beach community of Melbourne, Florida, home for the last 14 years. She is a first- generation Cuban/ Mexican American. Her love for food, dancing and music come from her Hispanic heritage. Her parents, both immigrants, instilled patriotism for a country that offered them both the American dream. Christina is very proud of her father who served the US navy.

Christina’s parents made many sacrifices to send her to Catholic private school and have her participate in piano, horseback riding, and tennis lessons. Their hard work and dedication to their daughter has always been appreciated and helped form who Christina is today.

On September 11, 2001, as the world stopped turning, Christina knew she wanted to become a nurse and work in the acute care setting. Christina graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree and went on to Duke University where she received her Master’s in Nursing Degree. In 2006, she married Dr. Michael Grainger, a radiologist and together they have three beautiful children, Matthew 12, Andrew 11 and Sofia 8. In 2015, Christina retuned back to school to pursue her doctorate at the University of Florida. Today, Christina is a bilingual Doctor of Nursing Practice who works as a nurse practitioner caring for diverse surgical populations as well as adding her artist eye and hand in aiding clients in their aesthetic journey as an injector at The Refinery Medspa and Wellness Clinic.

Christina’s love for community comes from her grandmother Maria who is known for always extending out a helping hand. Christina became involved with the Genesis House, a non- profit organization in Melbourne, Florida that helps women and children in transition. She became aware of the organization from a teacher at her children’s school. She became a volunteer at the boutique thrift store and would share her love for volunteerism with her children. These discussions led to the creation of The Teddy Bear with the Red Backpack. Christina wrote this book to start a narrative between parents, children and educators about the importance of volunteerism and how it can positively affect our youth. The book was released March 2020 and can be found on Amazon in print and in Kindle format. Proceeds from the book go to the Genesis House.

In 2020, Christina was appointed the title of Mrs Melbourne by the Florida America pageant system and competed in the 2020 Mrs Florida pageant September 2020 where she made it to top 9 and won best ball gown award. The competition gave Christina lasting memories, sisters for a life and strengthened her love for community.

When Christina is not working one can find her cheering for her kids on a soccer field or dance recital. She loves staying active and keeping in shape through dance. She also loves to travel, cook, spend time with friends and family.

This year’s Dancing for the Space Coast event will benefit the following local charities Eternal Flame, Family Promise of Brevard, Women’s Center of Brevard, Habitat for Humanity of Brevard and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Charity.

“Please join me for Dancing for the Space Coast and find out what local celebrity has the right moves to rule as Grand Champion of the dance floor,” said Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

“It’s an amazing evening to share in great food, laughter, friends, and incredible dancing while raising money for deserving Brevard County charitable organizations.
