Nelson earnd third first-team award of season

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The post-season awards keep rolling in for Florida Tech softball as Cheyenne Nelson and Tina Velazquez Rolon earned D2CCA All-South Region honors, announced Tuesday, May 18.

Nelson earned her third first-team award of the season as the junior previously won All-SSC and NFCA All-South Region nods.

The Washington native had a banner season as she tallied a batting average of .418 on 41 hits along with 51 totals bases courtesy of 34 singles, five doubles, a triple, and a home run.

Her batting average and hits lead the Sunshine State Conference a first since 1996 and 2015, respectively.

Velazquez Rolon came away with a second-team award as she got the award as a designated player.

Tina put together great performances in multiple positions not just at the plate, but she did lead the team in home runs with three.

The Puerto Rican also had excellent outings in the circle with a team-high 52 strikeouts.
