Parkhurst Academy in Melbourne Names Debbie Schelich as 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Parkhurst Academy in Melbourne has named Debbie Schelich as its 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year.

Schelich started with Parkhurst Academy as a part-time office assistant in 2016 and it quickly became apparent that her gifts made her a perfect fit for the classroom, and she has since earned her way up to a Lead Teacher.

“Her love, creativity, and patience, make her the perfect fit to educate the differently-abled students in our Soar Program,” said Parkhurst Academy administrators about Schelich in announcing her as Teacher of the Year.

“God works through her to make miracles happen daily. Students that enter her classroom with a minimal understanding of the alphabet are quickly reading.

“Through tenacity and the use of fun projects, students move from writing numbers to adding and subtracting in mathematics. Others with social and emotional challenges find peace under her wing. She is truly equipping students for life and helping them discover their God-given purpose.

“Debbie is also one of Parkhurst Academy’s greatest cheerleaders. She has planned and carried out numerous events, and you’d be hard-pressed to name an athletic game she’s missed.”

Parkhurst Academy was founded in 1984 as Brevard’s only Independent, Multi-Denominational, K4-12 Christian School. It is located at 3550 W. Eau Gallie Boulevard.
