Indiana Man Dies After Attempting to Save Woman Struggling to Swim in Cocoa Beach

Cocoa Beach Police are investigating the death of an 45-year-old Indiana man who drowned in the surf at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Cocoa Beach Police are investigating the death of an 45-year-old Indiana man who drowned in the surf at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Police say the incident happened about a block south of Minutemen Causeway, while the man was attempting to aid a female member of his group who appeared to be struggling to swim.

Cocoa Beach Police and Fire arrived on scene and the fire department deployed a jet ski. Both, the man and the woman, were brought to shore by fire personnel.

The man was transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The woman was treated and is with the man’s family.

Cocoa Beach detectives continue to investigate this active incident.
