BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s golf team was named the 2020-21 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year.

The team had a grade point average of 3.76 which is the best of any women’s golf program in the nation and was 10th best overall in all sports.

“An award of any kind is recognition of all of the hard work that they put in. They didn’t become the top academic team this week, it took a year of work and it really speaks to all of the hours they put in,” Eastern Florida State College women’s golf coach Jamie Howell said.

“Good for them, that is a feather in their caps and I could not be any more proud of them for their hard work and dedication.”

Sophomore Elise Boccabella and freshman Gabrielle Fernandez each made the first team with 4.0 GPAs while Olivia Timpy was on the second team and Valeria Fort and Kira Shellman made the third team.

The women’s golf team won a tournament and finished in the top three, four times this season, making it to the Region VIII Tournament.

“An award of any kind is recognition of all of the hard work that they put in. They didn’t become the top academic team this week, it took a year of work and it really speaks to all of the hours they put in,” Eastern Florida State College women’s golf coach Jamie Howell said.
