BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Maddie, a juvenile green sea turtle was found stranded near Haulover Bridge in Mims. Upon intake, Maddie had fibropapillomatosis, many necrotic lesions on the underside of their body, leeches, and a very strange puncture wound on their carapace.
Maddie was admitted into the Brevard Zoo on July 5.
Luckily, the deep wound had mostly healed on its own, but this sea turtle will need lots of tending to their wounds as they are already showing signs of infection.
Brevard Zoo is a 75-acre nonprofit facility located in Melbourne, Florida, that is home to more than 900 animals representing more than 195 species from Florida, South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia.
