23-Year-Old Merritt Island Man Dies in Head-On Collision Along SR-46, Mims Woman Injured

The Florida Highway Patrol announced on Sunday that two people have died and one person was critically injured in horrific head-on collision on SR-46 in Volusia County.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Highway Patrol announced on Sunday that two people have died and one person was critically injured in horrific head-on collision on SR-46 in Volusia County.

Authorities have identified the two drivers killed in the crash as a 23-year-old Merritt Island man and a 32-year-old Sanford man.

A third person who was critically injured in the crash has been identified as a 27-year-old woman from Mims. She was the passenger of the Merritt Island driver.

The investigation revealed that the Merritt Island man was traveling eastbound on SR-46 around 3:25 a.m. when he veered into the oncoming lanes heading eastbound and collided head-on with a driver from Sanford. The man from Sanford died at the scene, state troopers say.

The man from Merritt Island later died at Central Florida Regional.

The woman from Mims who was critically injured is also being cared for at Central Florida Regional.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the driver the veer into the oncoming lanes on SR-46
