BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College will add men’s and women’s cross country as sports starting in 2022.

The announcement came Monday at the college’s Board of Trustees meeting, with officials saying the cross country teams will give EFSC 13 sports competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

“Brevard County high school teams have excelled in cross country and I’ve been approached numerous times about starting a program here at EFSC so it’s a natural sport to add,” said Jeff Carr, the college’s Associate Vice President of Athletics.

Brevard high schools have won 22 state championships on the men’s side and 21 state championships on the women’s side.

The teams have also been state runner-up 30 times. That steady performance will give the college a strong pool of local talent to recruit.

The Titans will compete in Region VIII that currently has 10 women’s and five men’s cross country teams from around the state at the NJCAA level. The 13 sports will give EFSC more competitive sports than any junior college in Florida.
