BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech head coach Mark Penn has announced the promotion of Zach Wynne to full-time assistant coach of the men’s lacrosse program.

“Words cannot express how happy I am for Zach and the Florida Tech lacrosse program,” said Penn.

“This is such a positive step forward for everyone that has a part in the program. Zach is an amazing coach and incredible man of character. He embodies what we want our young men to be, and he works tirelessly to help each student-athlete achieve their full potential in life and lacrosse.

“Zach has been a key contributor to our program as a player and alumni, and now as a coach. I believe that this is the beginning of a coaching career that will impact many lives, and I feel very blessed to be a part of that.”

“I’m very thankful that Dr. McCay and Jamie Joss have made the decision to invest so heavily in our student-athletes and provided this position that will do so much to improve the overall mission of the program.”

“As a man of strong faith, Zach Wynne has led our men by example as a volunteer coach for two years and GOD has rewarded that commitment and sacrifice. I couldn’t be more thankful.”

Wynne, an alumnus of Florida Tech, quarterbacked the Panther offense during his lone season playing for the program in 2015.

He was named to the All-SSC Second Team that year after setting the program’s single-season points record with 54 points on 27 goals and 27 assists and guiding Tech to a 12-4 record and a spot in the Sunshine State Conference championship game. (Florida Tech image)

“I am extremely grateful to head coach Mark Penn, Athletic Director Jamie Joss, and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to continue my coaching career at Florida Tech,” said Wynne. “I am excited to help Coach Penn take Florida Tech lacrosse to new heights.”

The men’s lacrosse team’s offensive output has improved each season with Wynne on the staff. The Panthers went from averaging 11.13 goals and 5.13 assists per game during the 2020 season to 12.5 goals and 7.25 assists per game in 2021.

“Zach has proven to be an amazing offensive coach and a great tactician,” Penn stated. “He and John Combs have our offense performing a historic level. The 2021 offense, under their tutelage, was one of our highest-scoring teams to date.”

In addition to his duties as offensive coordinator the past two seasons, Wynne also oversaw recruiting, player development, and coordinating with alumni and parents to organize team events and banquets.

Wynne is a co-owner of Big Wave Lacrosse, a youth development program on the Space Coast. He also served as a coach for the Landsharks Lacrosse Club in 2015-16 and at Melbourne Central Catholic High School in 2016.

Wynne graduated from Florida Tech in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
