National Hurricane Center Tracks Multiple Disturbances in Atlantic, One Likely to Become Tropical Cyclone

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In the midst of peak hurricane season, National Hurricane Center is tracking multiple disturbances developing in the Atlantic on Thursday. One of the systems could potentially impact Florida by late next week.

The system that has National Hurricane Center’s close attention is located more than 800 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Due to favorable climate conditions in the area, the weather system is expected to become a tropical depression in the next 48 hours.

According to NHC, the system has a 70-percent chance to become a tropical depression in the next 48-hours and 80-percent chance to become a tropical depression in the next 5-days.

Florida and the Bahamas should continue to monitor this system as it draws closer to the Leeward Islands.
