BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA –  Cocoa Police Chief Evander Collier IV swore in the newest member of the Cocoa Police Department Monday afternoon.

Jamie McGowan accepted the Police Officer’s Oath in a special swearing in ceremony at the police department.

McGowan, 38, is originally from Georgia but grew up in Orlando since the age of 4. He earned his law enforcement certification after graduating from the Criminal Justice Academy at Valencia State College in 2005.

He has 16 years prior law enforcement experience including work as a general crimes investigator.

McGowan will spend the new few weeks learning the department’s policies and procedures before being placed with a field training officer to be cleared for patrol duties.
