(247 SPORTS) – No. 24 North Carolina earned an important 59-17 win in their home opener against Georgia State on Saturday.

The Tar Heels looked like a completely different team when it came to their passing attack.

Sam Howell had a great bounce-back game passing with 352 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions.

He also rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns. While he had a great night, the catalyst for the team’s performance on the offensive side of the ball was wide receiver Antoine Green. (UNC Tar Heels image)

He also rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns. While he had a great night, the catalyst for the team’s performance on the offensive side of the ball was wide receiver Antoine Green.

On UNC’s first drive of the game, a 31-yard completion from Howell to Green put the Tar Heels in opposing territory.

The completion was longer than any pass the Tar Heels had last week against Virginia Tech. The momentum from that catch led to a 22-yard touchdown run by Howell.

On UNC’s second drive of the game, Howell connected with Green on a contested 57-yard touchdown completion that seemed to dictate the type of energy the UNC offense was going to be playing with the rest of the night. The catch put the Tar Heels up 14-0 and they didn’t look back.
