BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – With the holidays now behind us, I thought we would turn our Crime Prevention focus back to some of the crimes that have a tendency to target us all year long if we are not careful.

With that said, “lock your car doors” is a Crime Prevention Message we hear on a regular basis, but often think doesn’t apply to us because we live in a safe community.

Unfortunately, today’s thieves target neighborhoods across the state and country looking for just one thing…cars that have been left unlocked. Once inside, they steal anything and everything, including computers, electronic items, briefcases, wallets, firearms, keys to other vehicles, and even your garage door opener.

Some of the perpetrators are so bold they use the garage door opener to gain entry into your house while you and your family are inside asleep.

The good news, is that locking your car doors is one of the easiest and fastest ways to protect yourself against becoming crime’s next victim. By locking your car door in your front yard you are making yourself a hard target and not an easy one for today’s criminals!!

While you don’t have to go to the extreme like the car in the photo, taking two extra seconds to lock your door keeps you from becoming a victim and sends the criminal away angry, disappointed, and empty handed!
