BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Adhem Saleh of Cocoa holds a 9.65-pound oceanic puffer fish that he caught on Jan. 7 about 15 miles east of Port Canaveral.
Saleh was trolling for king mackerel when the potential world-record-breaking puffer fish bit on a live ballyhoo rig.
The oceanic puffer is a pufferfish of the family Tetraodontidae, found in all tropical and subtropical oceans, at depths up to 1,500 feet.
Its length is up to 2-feet.
It is thought to be responsible for fatal poisoning, therefore it should not be eaten.
