Merry Passed AWAY ON Jan. 6, 2019 after 21-month battle with colon cancer

ABOVE VIDEO: Tonight, a very special edition of The Doctors Corner with Dr. Mark Pinsky. In late September Merry Besvold appeared as a guest on the show and courageously told her story of her battle with stage 4 colon cancer. Her message was one of prevention. Tragically, after a 21-month battle, Merry passed away on Jan.6 surrounded by loved ones. One of Merry’s final requests to Dr. Pinsky as he visited her days before she passed was to replay this episode.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – On this special edition of “The Doctors Corner,” host Dr. Mark Pinsky discusses wellness and prevention with a focus on colon cancer and having a colonoscopy is of utmost importance.

Originally airing on Sept. 27, 2018, on Space Coast Daily TV, Dr. Pinsky welcomed one of his most courageous patients, Merry Besvold.

Besvold was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in April 2017, and in March of 2018, was given two years to live.

Tragically, that diagnosis proved to be incorrect as Besvold, 65, of Rockledge, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by those who loved her on January 6, 2019.

She was the cherished by all that knew her and one of her wishes as she spoke to Dr. Pinsky in her final days was to make sure her message in this video reached the citizens of the Space Coast once again.

Besvold was a fighter as she battled an illness she admittedly knew she shouldn’t have had to battle at all if she simply heeded her own advice and sought preventable treatment at the age when doctors recommend you do so.

She had part of her colon removed and had gone through five different types of chemotherapy in just 17 months and suffered through of all of the side effects that chemotherapy can cause.

Thankfully, as you see in this video, Besvold was able to experience a period of wellness that allowed her to spend time with those she loved before her death.

However, the message that both Besvold and Dr.Pinsky want you to remember is one of prevention.

While Besvold’s story is courageous, her message of prevention and early detection is emotional and strong and delivered in a way that touches the soul.

“The moral to my story is don’t be stubborn, foolish or embarrassed by the fact you should have a colonoscopy,” said Besvold.
